Prizes for the best poster of the year
- The Prize(s) will be known as the North of England Ophthalmological Society Prize
- There shall be two prizes of equal value awarded at the Summer meeting of the Society for the best posters
- The value of the prizes may be altered from time to time by a quorum of the Council of the North of England Ophthalmological Society
- The Prize Committee for the year shall be agreed at the Autumn Council meeting
- The Prize Committee shall comprise the Immediate Past President (or nominated representative in his/her absence), one member of the Council and one other person agreed by the Council to be appropriate
- The Prize Committee shall have equal votes in the judgement of the prize
- Entrants may submit a maximum of one poster and / or one free paper in any given year
- The prizes will have a monetary value and will be awarded to the lead author of the winning poster(s) who must attend the Summer meeting
- The Prize Committee has the right to withhold award of a prize if in their opinion no poster(s) merits award of a prize
- Posters may have been displayed elsewhere within the preceding twelve months of the Summer meeting of the Society. The abstract should state at which other meeting(s) the poster has been displayed
- Where a member of the Prize Committee is a joint author or has any other personal involvement in a paper, he/she will declare an interest to the Chairman of the Prize committee and will refrain from taking part in the judging of that paper or poster. The Chairman will average the marks awarded by the remaining members of the Prize Committee and apply this average to the aggregate marks
- All grades except Consultant are eligible to be considered for a prize
- Research work presented must have been undertaken in a department of ophthalmology affiliated to the North of England Ophthalmological Society or in a university or research institute directly affiliated to that department
- A free paper presented at the Spring meeting cannot be resubmitted for consideration as a poster presentation at the Summer meeting. A paper submitted as an abstract for the Spring meeting but not presented can be submitted for consideration as a poster at the Summer meeting.
- All submissions must follow the guidance laid down on the abstract form – submitted typewritten and electronically via e-mail, and be submitted before the deadline. Submissions received after the deadline and not typewritten will not be considered
- The posters must be submitted and displayed at the author’s own expense
- The Council of the North of England Ophthalmological Society may amend these rules at any time
